There appears to be some differences in opinion regarding the extension proposal.... please vote accordingly.... majority wins.
Simple poll....do you think there should be the option of one-time extension (in some form)?
PROPOSAL
As a bonus to owners who took chances on young players in the draft, we are offering you the option to extend a selection of minor leaguers past their four (4) year contracts.
Players Drafted in the 2005 Amateur Draft: For minor leaguers who were drafted in the 2005 amateur draft, you can extend their contract to a five (5) year contract.
Players Drafted in the 2006 Amateur Draft: For minor leaguers who were drafted in the 2006 amateur draft, you can extend their contract to a six (6) year contract.

Ok, personally this thing doesn't affect me - I didn't change my draft strategy because of the prior rule. But regardless of that fact, I think that this shouldn't even be going to a vote. We set up the constitution for the league prior to the draft. The rules were set and everybody knew them. And now the rules are being changed. What's to stop us voting at this point to change the stat categories we use each week or the starting position requirements for everybody's team? Granted, I doubt anybody would vote for that, but my point is that once the door is opened to unecessarily changing the rules at this point in the game then bad things can happen.
It looks like we're having the vote and that it's going to pass. Fine. But let me just say that I seriously hope we don't make any more changes to the rules until after the end of the year, unless the change is absolutely necessary.
Just my opinion.

Thanks for your opinion..... it is good to have active new owners.
The change will not effect the outcome of the league this year or in future years most likely. The vote has passed..... so go ahead and make your extensions as laid out in the original post.
Thanks

I've made my points once. I'll not repeat myself.
Can I assume then that Premier players drafted in 2006 are now protected for 8 years?

Actually if you make a player premier this year that was drafted in 2006.... he would be protected for 9 (+3)

As stated in the original post...
These extensions must be made by March 15, 2007. No extensions will be granted. This gives you over two (2) weeks to process your extensions. Thanks

But... if you are talking about making someone premier... you can do it anytime before he as 3 years left on his contract.... or before the end of the season where he becomes major league eligible

Beat me to it ;D
I was just rereading the rules. In essence and, assuming that Snider, for instance, doesn't play in the MLB for arguments sake until 2010, he could be made a Premier player at any time prior to March 31, 2010 - assuming the MLB season starts April 1.
